"Silence," KY Intense ad

i just caught this commercial while channel surfing (or as the french call, zapping.. pronounced by stressing the second syllable).

the questions that comes to mind are:

is this meant to outreach to Asian & Pacific Islander (API) females? or does it "stereotype" them?

would the API girl next door find this funny (true)? or would they be offended by it?

if this is meant to target API women, what would be an effective concept that would get them to buy this product?

your thoughts? more questions? please click on "comments" (in blue below), thanks!

  1. It stereotypes API males and females. It particularly reinforces the stereotype that API males are inadequate in bed. Much like the LOST controversy, it's not common in the media to see an API couple have a healthy, happy, sexual relationship. Rather, it’s always problematic or non-existent.

I understand they're trying to target a demographic, but with anyone who has the ability to reach a mass audience, I think they should be more socially conscious/responsible in their strategy. Was it necessary to have them be “reserved?” Could they have not been a happy couple who was just experimenting with something new? I feel they could have taken several different routes than the one they used in this commercial, and still be socially progressive for the API community.
